My SolidWorks Performance Blitz tip today is simply reference a recent article written on Devon’s Blog where he discusses the importance of the computer processor over anything else built into the SolidWorks workstation.  Please check out his article: SolidWorks Performance; It’s All About The Processor.

* Article Update*

First, and note to Devon:  So shall it be.  :-)

Now for everyone else, please see Anna’s SolidMuse article on computer benchmarks.  In this article and subsequent comment discussion, there are side by side comparisons between various types of systems where CPU power is shown to be the primary factor in how fast SolidWorks runs.  Included is a spreadsheet showing many benchmark comparisons.  A brief quote from her article:

The time ranged from an incredibly long 871 seconds on an older, single core Intel Xeon processor system to a pretty zippy 98 seconds with a couple of over-clocked Intel Core 2 Duo systems.

So, upgrade those systems early and often! :-)
