adds new functionality to existing toys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A few months ago at SolidWorks World 2010, 3DConnexion announced that they are adding 3D mouse capabilities for SolidWorks.\u00a0 Their 3D mice now have a function that automatically and continuously determines the optimal center of rotation for any current view.\u00a0 When a model is fully in view, the center of rotation is the center of the model.\u00a0 When zoomed on a particular area of the model, the center of rotation becomes the center of the view.\u00a0 This makes the exploration and navigation\u00a0of the smallest details on the largest models much more intuitive.\u00a0\u00a0 This new function is called Auto Rotation Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/images\/3dc2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1241 alignleft\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin: 0px 3px;\" title=\"3dc2icon\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/3dc2icon.jpg?resize=96%2C81\" alt=\"3dc2icon\" width=\"96\" height=\"81\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/images\/3dc3.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full  wp-image-1242 alignleft\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin: 0px 3px;\" title=\"3dc3icon\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/3dc3icon.jpg?resize=96%2C82\" alt=\"3dc3icon\" width=\"96\" height=\"82\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Auto Rotation Center is displayed on the view pane of SolidWorks models or assemblies in the form of a translucent blue bubble.\u00a0\u00a0 This bubble has three display states which are chosen by the user under <em>3Dcontrol<\/em> pulldown&gt;Properties&gt;<em>Part\/Assembly<\/em> section&gt;<em>Show center<\/em> drop down.\u00a0 It may be always displayed, displayed in motion only (when the 3D mice is in use), or never displayed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ve been using this new functionality since Feb 2010\u00a0in\u00a0real world scenarios.\u00a0 Early on, I did have some initial issues with this function working properly on my computer system and version of SolidWorks.\u00a0 3Dconnexion did fix the bug I encountered.\u00a0 Since then, I&#8217;ve been impressed with this new function.\u00a0 So much so that I don&#8217;t even remember not using Auto Rotation Center with my SpacePilot PRO.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">An additional capability 3Dconnexion has added to their 3D mice is the ability to pick a new center of rotation from a point on the 3D model.\u00a0 With the Auto View Rotation, I&#8217;ve actually not used this\u00a0other function\u00a0even once.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So, if you have a 3Dconnexion 3D mouse which is currently supported, I recommend checking out their <a title=\"3Dconnexion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.3dconnexion.com\">website <\/a>to download the latest driver.\u00a0 Then turn on Auto Rotation Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One word of warning, installation of this new driver will wipe out any custom button mappings, so be prepared to remap your device&#8217;s buttons.\u00a0 (This won&#8217;t be an issue for new installs, of course.)<\/p>\n<p
