{"id":171,"date":"2009-02-18T13:27:20","date_gmt":"2009-02-18T21:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=171"},"modified":"2009-02-18T13:32:30","modified_gmt":"2009-02-18T21:32:30","slug":"quantity-and-balloons-in-solidworks-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=171","title":{"rendered":"Quantity and Balloons in SolidWorks 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">Adding quantities to balloons is something that many of us do when making assembly drawings in SolidWorks.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a very manual and sloppy process which involves adding carefully placed text next to each balloon that points to a part with multiple instances.\u00c2\u00a0 Some people use split balloons, but still manually edit each one for the desired affected.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Tobin Sparks and BalloonNote<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Along came Tobin Sparks.\u00c2\u00a0 Tobin was just starting out in the world of macro and API within SolidWorks.\u00c2\u00a0 Tobin was a quick study, learning from the likes of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eng-tips.com\/userinfo.cfm?member=handleman\" title=\"handleman's profile\">handleman <\/a>(expert API guy) on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eng-tips.com\/threadminder.cfm?pid=559\" title=\"Eng-Tips SolidWorks Forum\">Eng-Tips <\/a>and myself (macro hack).\u00c2\u00a0 Tobin saw a need and filled it by creating the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/sw.fcsuper.com\/index.php?name=UpDownload&amp;req=viewdownloaddetails&amp;lid=113\" title=\"BalloonNote macro\">BalloonNote<\/a> macro.\u00c2\u00a0 This macro simplified the process of adding quantities to balloons.\u00c2\u00a0 The macro does have its quirks, but overall it is very well conceived and executed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"2\" vspace=\"2\" width=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fcsuper.com\/images\/Blog\/balloonnote.jpg?resize=350%2C234\" hspace=\"2\" alt=\"BalloonNote screen shot\" height=\"234\" style=\"width: 358px; height: 220px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the past eight months, BalloonNote has really been the state of the art when it comes to adding quantities to balloons.\u00c2\u00a0 OK, that&#8217;s a slight overstatement, but the macro is very cool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s New Announcment at SWW09<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Either way, SolidWorks has stepped up.\u00c2\u00a0 At SolidWorks World 2009, the <em>What&#8217;s New<\/em> presentation showed off many new abilities planned for SolidWorks 2010.\u00c2\u00a0 One of those new functions is\u00c2\u00a0the adding of quantities to balloons.\u00c2\u00a0 Strangely, there are some eerie similarities between the SW2010 function and Tobin&#8217;s macro.\u00c2\u00a0 I cannot get into too much detail beyond the announcement itself.\u00c2\u00a0 I will say that it will be nice to have the functionality built into SolidWorks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adding quantities to balloons is something that many of us do when making assembly drawings in SolidWorks.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a very manual and sloppy process which involves adding carefully placed text next to each balloon that points to a part with multiple instances.\u00c2\u00a0 Some people use split balloons, but still manually edit each one for &hellip;
