\"My<\/a>I have now been to four SolidWorks World conferences.\u00a0 My first was in 2008.\u00a0 As with most attendees, my first time was overwelming.\u00a0 So much information is packed into such a short time frame.\u00a0 There are three general sessions and up to 11 opportunities to learn in breakout sessions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The real value in SolidWorks World are those breakout sessions.\u00a0 Nowhere else is it possible to learn from first hand interaction about so many different SolidWorks related topics in one place.\u00a0 Yet, the topics aren’t just about SolidWorks itself.\u00a0 One of the most helpful sessions I’ve attended was about how CAD can work within an FDA regulated environment.<\/p>\n

This inspired me.\u00a0 I wanted to present my own breakout sessions to share my knowledge.\u00a0 What could I talk about?\u00a0 Well, I know drawings very well.\u00a0 In 2008, I submitted my first presentation proposal on drawings for SolidWorks World 2009.\u00a0 It was rejected.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, I started presenting locally at the SolidWorks User Group <\/a>meetings.\u00a0 I did two presentations (written about here <\/a>and here<\/a>)\u00a0that covered SolidWorks World 2008 at the Tri-Valley SolidWorks User Group<\/a> and the Silicon Valley SolidWorks User Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I also started presenting at the SolidWorks User Group Network Technical Summits<\/a>.\u00a0 In\u00a0Los Angeles, CA<\/a>\u00a0in 2008, I\u00a0gave a presentation on\u00a0advanced drawing tips and tricks.\u00a0 In\u00a0San Jose, CA <\/a>in 2010, I gave\u00a0another well received presentation on advanced SolidWorks customization techniques<\/a>.\u00a0 If someone cannot make it to SolidWorks World, I recommend attending a Technical Summit when is in their area.<\/p>\n

I didn’t submit any breakout session proposals for SolidWorks World 2010.\u00a0 It turns out that I ended up being a co-presenter of sorts for the Stump the Chumps II <\/a>breakout session.\u00a0 Jeff Mirisola organized this presentation.\u00a0 My role was small, but this was my debut on a breakout session stage at SolidWorks World.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I was again inspired to submit my own breakout session proposals for SolidWorks World 2011.\u00a0 To my delight, both of my proposals were accepted.\u00a0 However, I soon realized that my time would be limited again.\u00a0 I had to make the hard decision to withdraw one of my proposals.\u00a0 This allowed me to\u00a0focus on making sure my one presentation was high quality.\u00a0 My presentation was Establishing CAD standards within a SolidWorks Environment<\/em>, written about here<\/a>.\u00a0 (I’ll talk more about the content of my presentation at a later time.)<\/p>\n

My\u00a0presentation was well received.\u00a0 I was approached by many individuals over the next two days at SolidWorks World 2011 to thank me for the presentation.\u00a0 This was an unexpected bonus that made the whole endeavour very rewarding.\u00a0 I’ve given back to the same community that has benefited my growth\u00a0so much.\u00a0 I hope that I will be able to give two presentations at SolidWorks World 2012!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
