(Tune-up II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, I announced that <a title=\"SolidWorks 2010 tune-up\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=232\" target=\"_blank\">SolidWorks 2010 has had a tune-up<\/a>.\u00a0 The code in certain areas of the software had been getting a little long in the tooth, and long in the rebuild times too.\u00a0 For SolidWorks 2010, the team at SolidWorks Corp set out to clean up some of the more inefficient code that&#8217;s been dragging SolidWorks down.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not yet sure how successful they were in this endeavor.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the areas have affected in this clean up (not a complete list):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the Knit Surface algorithm, which not only includes the Surface-Knit feature, but also all other features and commands that utilize the algorithm;<\/li>\n<li>Multibody parts and related commands, mostly noticeable on a large number of solid\/surface bodies;<\/li>\n<li>Weldment cutlist update (body comparison)<\/li>\n<li>Equation performance;<\/li>\n<li>Delete Face feature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fcsuper.com\/images\/Blog\/deleteface1.jpg?resize=206%2C178\" border=\"2\" alt=\"Unassuming 2009 example model\" hspace=\"2\" vspace=\"2\" width=\"206\" height=\"178\" align=\"left\" \/>I set out to see just how much improvement one might expect from a simple example of Delete Face.\u00a0 (Reminder: I&#8217;m using SolidWorks 2010 Beta 2.)\u00a0 I found a rather basic model example available in SolidWorks 2009.\u00a0 Within SolidWorks 2009, I used Delete Face to delete one random surface.\u00a0 The options I used were <em>Delete and Fill<\/em>\/<em>Tangent Fill<\/em>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a self repairing deletion that would normally be used on something a bit more complex than a flat surface.<\/p>\n<p>Average rebuild times (s):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SW 2009 w\/o Delete Face:\u00a0 .360<\/li>\n<li>SW 2009 w\/ Delete Face:\u00a0 1.330<\/li>\n<li>SW 2009, just Delete Face: <strong>.937<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>SW 2010 w\/o Delete Face:\u00a0 .390<\/li>\n<li>SW 2010 w\/ Delete Face:\u00a0 1.210<\/li>\n<li>SW 2010, just Delete Face: <strong>.823<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Delete Face feature does indeed have improved rebuild times, but with the options I choose, it&#8217;s not by much.\u00a0 Then, I discovered something weird.\u00a0 In SW 2009, I reloaded the model and found the Delete Face average time was 1.60 (for a total of 2.00)!\u00a0 After suppressing the Delete Face feature and rebuilding a few more times, the total average rebuild time was again 1.33.\u00a0 What the heck?\u00a0 So, I tried this out in SW 2010.\u00a0 First rebuild was a whooping 3.17 seconds for just the Delete Face feature! After rebuilding more, it settled down to average 1.31 (totalling about 1.86)!
