There are more than a few discussion forums available for people looking for SolidWorks specific conversations online.\u00c2\u00a0 Here’s the list of all the forums I use (in alphabetical order), with a quick personal statement of my opinions.\u00c2\u00a0 Feel free to add to my commentary, disagree, or even mention others.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

3DCADForums<\/strong><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0– This website has forums for AutoCAD, CATIA, Inventor, IronCAD, ProE, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, UG\/NX, VX CAD\/CAM, and 3D Studio Max.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Membership (free) is required to participate in discussions.\u00c2\u00a0 It lists all topics in order of most recent activity.\u00c2\u00a0 This forum seems to attract very little attention from SolidWorks users.\u00c2\u00a0 I find that the site loads very slowly.\u00c2\u00a0 Additionally, advertisement placement\u00c2\u00a0is very distracting.\u00c2\u00a0 I do not recommend this site.<\/p>\n

comp.cad.solidworks<\/strong><\/a> (link is via Google Groups) – This forum is accessible via many usenet readers.\u00c2\u00a0 It is SolidWorks specific.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Many SolidWorks users frequent this group.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It is not uncommon to find new postings\u00c2\u00a0occuring hourly.\u00c2\u00a0 Depending on access method,\u00c2\u00a0topics are listed in order of topic creation.\u00c2\u00a0 The forum \u00c2\u00a0environment can range from extremely helpful to extremely hostile.\u00c2\u00a0 I cannot recommend this forum to new users.\u00c2\u00a0 It is OK for experienced users who have a thick skin.<\/p>\n

ENG-TIPS SolidWorks 3D CAD products Forum<\/strong><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0– Eng-tips is a vast site with a diverse selection of topics covering many different Engineering related fields.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It requires membership (free) to participate in its discussions.\u00c2\u00a0 It lists topics by most recent activity.\u00c2\u00a0 It is heavily moderated.\u00c2\u00a0 This can be beneficial at times, but also detrimental at other times.\u00c2\u00a0 Contact between members is limited to the website itself.\u00c2\u00a0 Email addresses are banned.\u00c2\u00a0 It does have some advertisements, but they are not intrusive.\u00c2\u00a0 The site owners\u00c2\u00a0send out infrequent spammish emails (one email a few times a year).\u00c2\u00a0 Because of these facts, this site has many detractors.\u00c2\u00a0 However, in my mind, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages on most days.\u00c2\u00a0 There are many knowledgeable contributors that frequent the site.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Additionally, I have found this site to be a good source for API assistance.\u00c2\u00a0 One further advantage is that there are a bunch of other engineering related forums that make this a convenient one-stop location for those who have interests outside of SolidWorks.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Activity occurs on a nearly hourly basis.\u00c2\u00a0 I recommend this forum, with the caveat that one should expect its strict rules to be heavily enforced.<\/p>\n

mCADForums<\/strong><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0– This website has forums for AutoCAD, Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, SolidWorks, Alibre, Pro\/E, Solid Edge, GrafiCalc, many user groups, and some general engineering discussions.\u00c2\u00a0 It lists topics by most recent activity.\u00c2\u00a0 Membership (free) is required to participate in discussions.\u00c2\u00a0 It seems to attract very little attention from SolidWorks users.\u00c2\u00a0 However, activity may be increasing.\u00c2\u00a0 It has advertisements that are slightly distracting.\u00c2\u00a0 I do not recommend this site\u00c2\u00a0to SolidWorks users\u00c2\u00a0solely based on the fact that activity is light.<\/p>\n
