I recently conducted a small poll<\/a><\/strong><\/span> on SolidWorks Yahoo! Group<\/a> asking who was using SolidWorks Spelling Check.\u00a0 To my surprize, almost half (so far) have never even hear of Spelling Check.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Spelling<\/p>\n

Only 21% of respondents use Spelling Check regularly.\u00a0 I guess the next question is, “Why aren’t more people using this seemingly obvious tool in SolidWorks?”\u00a0 Is there a good answer for that?\u00a0 From my own experience, I use Lenny’s CommonNotes<\/a>, which means most of my general notes are pre-fabbed.\u00a0 Since the bulk of the text appears in the general notes, there isn’t much text left in the body of the drawing where misspellings can hide.\u00a0 So, out of a lack for necessity, I’m in the “Yes, sometimes” category.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here’s the kicker.\u00a0 For the Spelling Check to work, Microsoft Word has to be installed since SolidWorks piggybacks the Microsoft spell checker. <\/span><\/p>\n

This brings me to another point.\u00a0 Why does this tool have a weird name?\u00a0 We all know this function is a spell checker.\u00a0 So, why is it referred to as “Spelling Check” in SolidWorks?\u00a0 This seems to be a rather odd quirk.<\/span><\/p>\n
