\"IMG_0556\"<\/a>In a previous article<\/a>, I mentioned stunt expert Casey Pieretti and engineer Bill Spracher on their show,\u00a0Bionic Builders.\u00a0 In his presentation during the Tuesday General Session of SolidWorks World 2011, Pierretti declared, \u201cI don\u2019t want to be enabled; I want to be super-enabled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, at the press conference that followed the General Session, I asked Pierretti and Spracher if they thought about making everyone super-enabled.\u00a0 Pierretti said they thought about the broad range of possibilities but focused on\u00a0prosthetics for amputees.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Pierretti and Spracher are trying to make prosthetic limbs that are inexpensive as possible.\u00a0 Medical insurance wouldn’t even apply to the types of\u00a0prosthetics they produce, nor would it need to if the cost is in the right price range.\u00a0 One thing that has helped reduce costs is the standardization of the pyramid fitting.\u00a0 The standard connection\u00a0also makes marketing prosthetic limbs easier.<\/p>\n

I’m glad to see this topic getting this type of attention.\u00a0 One thing I would like to see on Bionic Builders <\/a>is something similar to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition<\/a>, where they could\u00a0dedicate one of the stories in each episode to help a new person who has a need\u00a0for a special prosthetic.\u00a0 That would be great!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
