{"id":267,"date":"2009-10-23T07:20:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-23T15:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=267"},"modified":"2024-12-06T16:34:04","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T20:34:04","slug":"point-locations-virtual-sharps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=267","title":{"rendered":"Point Location (Virtual Sharp)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The names for dimensioning methods within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asme.org\/codes-standards\/find-codes-standards\/y14-5-dimensioning-tolerancing\">ASME Y14.5<\/a> often do not match the common names.\u00a0 For example, what most of us call <em>ordinate dimensioning<\/em> is officially labelled as <em>rectangular coordinate dimensioning<\/em>.\u00a0 This can make information about certain dimensioning methods hard to find within the standard.\u00a0\u00a0One dimensioning method that is particularly difficult to find is <em>point location<\/em>.\u00a0 A <em>point location<\/em> is where a point is located by the intersection of extension lines only.\u00a0 The method is known by so many other names.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>theoretical sharp corner<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>theoretical corner<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>theoretical sharp<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>apex<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>intersect<\/em><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fcsuper.com\/images\/Blog\/vs-pl2.jpg?resize=112%2C215\" alt=\"Virtual Sharp optoins\" width=\"112\" height=\"215\" align=\"right\" border=\"2\" hspace=\"2\" vspace=\"2\" \/><\/li>\n<li><em>intersection<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>intersection point<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>imaginary point<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>virtual sharp<\/em><\/li>\n<li>and likely others as well<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The SOLIDWORKS application uses the term <em>virtual sharp<\/em>.\u00a0 SOLIDWORKS offers a list of options for the delineation of virtual sharps (i.e., <em>point locations<\/em>).
