{"id":3313,"date":"2012-02-20T08:34:04","date_gmt":"2012-02-20T12:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=3313"},"modified":"2012-02-18T19:02:07","modified_gmt":"2012-02-18T23:02:07","slug":"solidworks-world-2012-top-ten-enhancement-requests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=3313","title":{"rendered":"SolidWorks World 2012 Top Ten Enhancement Requests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a tradition of SolidWorks World, there is a vote for the top ten enhancement requests for SolidWorks.\u00a0 This year&#8217;s list varies a bit from previous a bit more than normal.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a couple reasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First, several items from\u00a0<a title=\"SolidWorks World 2011 Top Ten list\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=2360\">last year&#8217;s top ten <\/a>was actually included in the next release (some even announced at the show).\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the completed and planned items from last year&#8217;s list:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SolidWorks should cleanly uninstall itself (Done in the same year)<\/li>\n<li>Freeze Features (Done in the same year)<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced Equations Input &amp; Editing &amp; Linking (Done in 2012 and added abilities planned for 2013.)<\/li>\n<li>File compatibility between versions (Announcement some ability for this\u00a0is planned for 2013.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Item number 9 from last year was to keep the Ideas area of the forum open for year around voting.\u00a0 It should be noted that this isn&#8217;t actually a request to improve SolidWorks, but regarding the process to provide input for how to improve it.\u00a0 It is essentially a vote for the voting process.\u00a0 Technically, voting for enhancements is available year around via the Enhancement Requests area in the Customer Portal.\u00a0 The Idea voting system is something fun just for SolidWorks World that allows SolidWorks to have the opportunity to take a yearly snapshot of customer needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Second, the voting system for Ideas worked a bit different this year.\u00a0 In previous years, voting and submission of ideas was mingled.\u00a0 This meant that ideas that where submitted early naturally received more votes.\u00a0 This year levelled the playing field.\u00a0 All ideas where first collected in the first phase, then voted upon during the second phase.\u00a0 Ideas that may have been hidden in previous years now got a chance to be noticed.<\/p>\n<h4>SolidWorks World 2012 Top Ten Enhancement Requests<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>#10- Thread creation wizard<\/li>\n<li>#9- Add lock rotation option to cylindrical<\/li>\n<li>#8- Escape key should immediately return control of the interface (similar to request from last year)<\/li>\n<li>#7- Dimensions should stay where you place them<\/li>\n<li>#6- Ability to control a plane&#8217;s front and back side orientation<\/li>\n<li>#5- Reduce the bounding box of drawing views to visible components only<\/li>\n<li>#4- Address the shaded with edges bleed thru issue<\/li>\n<li>#3- Don&#8217;t delete your children, dangle them instead (similar to request from <a title=\"SolidWorks World 2010 Top Ten List\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=763\">SolidWorks World 2010&#8217;s list)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>#2- Mass properties should include the option to automatically put a point a the center of gravity<\/li>\n<li>#1- Start using more CPU cores whenever its possible (similar to request from SolidWorks World 2010&#8217;s list)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a tradition of SolidWorks World, there is a vote for the top ten enhancement requests for SolidWorks.\u00a0 This year&#8217;s list varies a bit from previous a bit more than normal.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a couple reasons.\u00a0 First, several items from\u00a0last year&#8217;s top ten was actually included in the next release (some even announced at the show).\u00a0 &hellip;
