This is not intentional.  This fact is an artifact of an increased focus on Drawing functionality in SOLIDWORKS since that time.  So, just as a curiosity, I&#8217;m going back to see what was added, and roughly when.  It&#8217;s not going to be precise in some cases because not every addition to the library showed up in the What&#8217;s New.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that this list does not include symbols created as part of new annotation tools, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2015\/english\/whatsnew\/c_location_labels_views.htm\">Location Label<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2016\/english\/whatsnew\/c_flag_notes.htm\">Flag Notes<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2018\/english\/whatsnew\/c_movable_datum_target.htm\">Movable Datum Targets<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2012-2014<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is an older article that covers symbols which were added from 2012 to 2014 called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/?p=4525\">New stuff in SolidWorks 2014 (not mentioned in \u201cWhat\u2019s New\u201d): Symbols<\/a>.  It covers the introduction of inspection symbols, functional symbols (such as Rho and center of mass) and introduction of drawing view symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2014<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, in 2014, several JIS weld symbols were added and supported in the Weld Symbol annotation for JIS drawing standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Edge<\/li><li>Keyhole<\/li><li>Scarf<\/li><li>Stud<\/li><li>Penetration<\/li><li>Backing<\/li><li>Chadding (following figure)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/image-1.png?resize=499%2C90\" alt=\"JIS Weld symbols\" class=\"wp-image-5732\" width=\"499\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/image-1.png?w=512&amp;ssl=1 512w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/image-1.png?resize=300%2C54&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 85vw, 499px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, an updated version of the JIS Chadding symbol was added<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fcsuper.com\/swblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/image-8.png?resize=121%2C61\" alt=\"JIS Chadding symbol\" class=\"wp-image-5739\" width=\"121\" height=\"61\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2015<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotface symbol for hole callouts was replaced.  The previous version of the symbol relied in the current font of the document, so text within the symbol only lined up properly for one specific font. This file is an editable text file.
