Stump the Chumps II

After a one year hiatus, Stump the Chumps is returning to SolidWorks World in 2010. I’m pleased to announce that I’ve volunteered as one of the chumps this year.

In an effort to answer even more questions, the Stump the Chumps II breakout session will take on a slightly different format. Instead of spending the entire period fielding questions from the audience, questions should be submitted prior to the conference. If you would like to challenge the chumps with your question, please email us at stumpthechumps@gmail.com. SolidWorks World 2010: International Travel

SWW2010 international travel banner The event is called SolidWorks World because it is the international convention for SolidWorks. Attendees are from many countries. The SolidWorks World website has special information to help the international traveller, available on its international travel information page. It includes passport and visa information. There is also contact details for those who require an invitation letter for a visa.

Richard Doyle is looking for first-timers

Ok, Richard Doyle, leader of the SoilidWorks online community, didn’t say he was “looking” for folks who will be attending their first SolidWorks World in Jan 2010. He does have a message for first-timers, including useful advice and links. However, I’m sure he would appreciate comments from people who are planning on attending their first SolidWorks World. As for Richard, he has attended every one.

SolidWorks World 2010 correspondent quest

Just announced yesterday, SolidWorks is conducting a contest to find a worthy person to act as their Official Internet Correspondent at SolidWorks World 2010. The winner of the contest will be loaned a camcorder to use to document their experience at SolidWorks World 2010 on a blog and Youtube (and associated Tweets too)!

The decision as to who wins the contest will be made November 13. I would like to ask everyone to vote for our very own Chris Saller (if he accepts the nominations he has received already). Unless someone has a more clever idea, I say just vote for Chris by commenting on the article linked here.

SolidWorks World 2010 Agenda

The preliminary agenda is now posted for SolidWorks World 2010 on the SolidWorks website. The agenda is subject to change, of course. That usually means that more breakout sessions may be added.

If justification for attendance is still needed, the agenda itself can serve as an excellent resource. One way to look at SolidWorks World is that it is an opportunity to attend up to twelve educational classes. At $995, that works out to be just under $83 per session. I’ve easily paid over $800 a day for some industry seminars. SolidWorks World is a big bargain.

But wait, there’s more! Attendees also get to explore a large trade show (Partner Pavilion) with hundreds of exhibitors. Some trade shows are free, but more technical ones tend to charge some sort of nominal fee. At SolidWorks World, it’s included as part of the package.

Coming soon in November, attendees will be able to pick their session preferences. Spots are not guaranteed for regular breakout sessions even with advanced session preference selection. However, it’s important to pick preferences soon, especially for hands-on sessions which usually fill up fast.

There’s a special deal that can allow SolidWorks World 2010 attendees to save $200 on registration. It’s the Early Bird #1 special offer. Instead of paying $995, people who register early qualify for the price of $795. For those who are already planning to attend, this is a good reason to register sooner.
